Having a working knowledge of geography assists greatly in world building. Cultures and powers who controlled the maps were able to control the world, the structures of religion, the politics and the finance. How do you use your map to determine where attacks might come, based on cultural boundaries and borders? How do you decide where battles would most likely be fought?
