Writing a novel is a daunting task, one that can consume anywhere from a year to a decade or more of your life. There are no end of books and techniques about how to write, but none of them really address a more fundamental issue: how to start. Any general worth their salt will tell you that a plan is only viable until first contact with the enemy. In many ways, preparing to write a novel is not dissimilar. Plans change. Books change. These exercises are some ways in which you can get started. Strap in. Hold on. BE ADAPTABLE. Above all, just keep transcribing what your Muse is saying.
